N3 at Mariannhill closed due to MK protest

Traffic is at a standstill at Mariannhill Toll Plaza as Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans march to highlight the plight of black farm workers.

MEMBERS of Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans in KwaZulu-Natal have blocked all lanes at the Mariannhill Toll Plaza causing a massive backlog of traffic.

The march, they say is to highlight the plight of black farm workers. In an interview on SAFM on Thursday, the party said they wanted to highlight what they call the inhumane conditions farm workers live in.

This comes after demonstrations dubbed Black Monday, where people protested against the killing of farmers. Farming communities throughout South Africa took to the streets to raise awareness about farm attacks and killings also shutting down several roads.

Earlier, members of the veteran’s association had burned the old South African flag as a form of protest. This video was posted by ANN7 journalist, Phathisa Mfuyo.

Motorists are urged to use alternate routes or expect delays.
