La Lucia resident shoots armed attacker

The men had tried to break-into a home on Braemar Avenue.

A HOUSEBREAKING suspect is under police watch at Addington Hospital after he attempted to attack a La Lucia homeowner on the corner of Braemar and Davallen Avenue. According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, the incident occurred just after midnight on Thursday. The homeowner, who chased after the suspects shot one of them in the leg after he attempted to stab him.

“Two suspects had attempted to break into a property on Braemar Avenue. The tenant of the home heard a noise and went to investigate. He then spotted two men crawling through a toilet window. He shouted at the men who jumped back out the window and fled the scene of the break-in.

“However, the resident drove after them and attempted to apprehend the suspects. He cornered them at the Davallen, Braemar intersection and pulled out his firearm. One of the suspects, armed with a knife approached him. Fearing for his life, he fired a warning shot and when that didn’t work on the advancing attacker, he shot the suspect in the leg,” he said.

Deokaran added the suspect will be charged with housebreaking. Nothing was taken during the break-in.

The second suspect is still at large and was able to flee on foot.
