Woman robbed at knife-point at Gateway

Gateway Theatre of Shopping management confirmed the incident had taken place.

DURBAN North SAPS are looking for a man who allegedly robbed a Gateway shopper near the cinema level. According to police, the incident occurred on Sunday at about 11.20am. The man allegedly approached the woman, pretending to need help.

The suspect then pulled out a knife and demanded her handbag. He grabbed her handbag with her valuables before fleeing on foot.

No arrests have been made as yet by the Durban North SAPS.

Gateway Theatre of Shopping management confirmed the incident had taken place.

“The management of Gateway is aware of the incident which took place over the weekend. Our team is working closely with the tenant to address the matter, as the safety of our shoppers is of paramount importance,” said Gateway’s marketing manager, Michelle Shelley.

This is the first robbery at the centre since October when armed suspect stormed a popular clothing store.

It’s alleged the two suspects, one of whom was armed with a handgun, stormed the store shortly after it opened. The men made off with the day’s cash float as well as a number of cell phones.
