VIDEO: Young entrepreneur stretches imagination with gloopy slime

GLUTINOUS in texture and gloopy in its fluidity, the slime craze has exploded in popularity across the globe. A simple search on social media sites like YouTube and Instagram and you will see millions of videos and photos of people poking and stretching slime, as well as teaching others how to make their own. This has inspired 8-year-old Durban North resident, Zaara Ballim, who has made her own concoction and product, Oober Slime.

The Northlands Primary School Grade 2 learner, and entrepreneur also has one of the most popular local slime accounts where she shows off her own products.

Ballim first learned about slime earlier this year and began watching YouTube videos and began to make it just for fun.

Ballim makes her own slime in her kitchen on Gainsborough Drive with the help of her ‘Momager’, Nasima Kader. Ballim has also mastered a glow-in-the-dark version and slime with glitter and confetti in it. She has also mastered more than 12 different colours and textures.

“It took me about three batches before finding the right consistency. The first batch I made was too watery, the second batch, wasn’t the best and a few moms we sold it to said it was too sticky. But now I’ve got the formula right. I wanted to call my product, ‘Super Duper Slime’ but it was too long for the label and my mom suggested ‘Oober Slime’ and that’s how the name really stuck,” she said.

Ballim has also become a hit at local flea markets. Her mother, Nasima, said the response from the community has been overwhelming.
