CROW appeals for depots in Durban North, uMhlanga

Umgeni River Bird Park will no longer be a depot or drop off point for CROW.

THE Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) has announced that the Umgeni River Bird Park will no longer be their depot and drop-off point for CROW.

The rehabilitation centre CROW is putting out an appeal for people or organisations that would like to become a depot for CROW within the Durban North to Umhlanga area.  Paul Hoyte, operations director at CROW said:  “With the busy baby season upon us, CROW needs all the help it can get with admissions skyrocketing to up to 800 animals a month.”

Hoyte said they had noted that the Umgeni River Bird Park already had their hands full.  “With the rise of wildlife in need and ever increasing operational costs, CROW can no longer ask Umgeni River Bird Park to shoulder this responsibility. We have been working with the Umgeni River Bird Park for many years and we have a very good working relationship. They have a large operation themselves and need all their resources focused on the animals in their care,” said Hoyte.

Hoyte said that people in Durban North and Umhlanga are welcome to call CROW if they need help in the meantime. He added that their appeal to the public for help had been heard and they already have two people in the area who have volunteered their homes as depots and drop off points for CROW.

Anyone willing to find out more about becoming a depot from the requirements, training and responsibilities can email CROW at clinic@crowkzn.co.za
