WATCH: Armed men storm local business, steal R60 000

GREENWOOD Park SAPS and Enforce Security are searching for three men behind the armed robbery of the Island Style Virtual Surf Shop on Sea Cow Lake Road earlier this morning. According to the owner, Warren Wareing, the three suspects, two of whom were armed, locked staff in one of the showrooms at the shop before making off with R60 000 from a customer who was visiting the shop.

The incident occurred about 10.15pm. The robbery was captured by the shop’s CCTV footage.

“One of the robbers was standing at the door and was keeping the security gate opened so they wouldn’t be hindered in their escape route. The suspects had pretended to be shoppers themselves perusing out stock. One of the men then lunged for the bag with the money in it while his accomplice pulled out a handgun.

“They then ordered my staff into the showroom before locking us up and making a speedy getaway. The suspects used a white Toyota Corolla with NRB number plates, which was linked to a house break-in in Richards Bay this week. The customer who was robbed of the money had visited a bureau de change before coming to our store. I’m thankful no one was injured and no shots were fired but we are all very shaken up,” Wareing said.

Anthony Feuilherade of Enforce Security, said they believed the victim was followed from the exchange bureau.

“Our investigations have revealed the victim was followed from the exchange bureau. At this point the suspects are still at large and our investigations are ongoing,” he said.

A case of armed robbery has been opened at the Greenwood Park SAPS.
