Murdered teen’s family comes forward

The 13-year-old's body was found by a subsistence fisherman some nine kilometres away from his Waterloo home.

THE family of the young boy whose body was found floating in the Ohlanga River‚ has been identified. The 13-year-old, known as Ntokozo (police have withheld his surname), from Waterloo was found by members of the SAPS Search and Rescue Unit 600 metres upstream from the M4 Ruth First highway bridge‚ with multiple stab wounds to the back.

Police also discovered the teenager’s throat had been slit.

According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, a family member who saw the article online contacted him saying the teenager had been missing for almost three days.

“According to his family, the boy had gone fishing on the day and never returned. His family frantically searched for him but their worst fears were confirmed when his body was found several days later by a subsistence fisherman some nine kilometres away from his home. At this point, no arrests have been made but we have positive leads which we hope will help bring some closure to the family,” he said.
