School security guard robbed in Durban North

There has been a spate of armed muggings targeting domestic workers and pedestrians this year.

A SECURITY who works at a Durban North school was robbed of his valuables on his way home on Tuesday night. According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, the robbery took place on Adelaide Tambo (Kensington Drive) at about 6.20pm.

“The security guard was walking to catch a taxi when he spotted a Toyota Tazz with NT number plates pull up next to him. Two of the occupants, one armed with a firearm jumped out the vehicle and pointed the weapon at his head. They demanded his valuables and threatened to shoot him if he called for help.

“The men took his cell phone and wallet which had an undisclosed amount of cash in it. The security guard who was traumatised by the incident took down the number plates but remembered two numbers which we are still trying to trace. The suspects are still at large,” Deokaran said.

The incident comes after a domestic worker was robbed by two men on Portland Drive in uMhlanga Avenue last month.
