SOUTH African Revenue Service (SARS) customs officials intercepted a man at King Shaka International Airport on Friday who was carrying over R6-million in cash in his luggage.
In a statement, SARS said the man was en-route to Dubai when one of the SARS Detector Dog Unit’s canines reacted positively to the passenger’s luggage.

“A scan revealed images consistent with undeclared currency. This joint intervention between SARS and the South African Police Service (SAPS) led to the passenger’s arrest,” the statement said.
The bust comes a month after customs officials at King Shaka Airport intercepted heroin, illegal skin whitening cream and counterfeit clothes in three separate incidents. Goods worth a combined value of over R20-million were seized by SARS officials.
