Armed gang rob La Lucia homes one hour apart

This is the ninth incident in La Lucia since the beginning of October.

AN armed gang of eight suspects robbed two homes in La Lucia just a half hour apart on Wednesday afternoon. The gang broke into both homes by using the same modus operandi. According to Marshall Security’s Kyle van Reenen the first break-in took place on Wilson Way. Approximately 30 minutes later, a home on William Campbell Drive was also targeted.

“In the Wilson Way incident, the suspects derailed the gate before smashing down the front door using a sledgehammer. The men ransacked the home stealing jewellery, money and other items. The gardener who was at the rear of the property heard the commotion and jumped into the neighbouring yard to call for help.

“The second incident followed a similar pattern where the suspects smashed in the door and the security gate before making off with several items. Durban North SAPS and Marshall Security are currently searching for the suspects who are armed and dangerous,” van Reenen said.

According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, two cases of house break-ins were registered. The suspects were spotted fleeing the scene in a Kia Sportage.

The incidents follows an assault and robbery of a La Lucia couple on Homeford Drive. This is the ninth incident in La Lucia since the beginning of October.

Last month, armed suspects opened fire on an armed reaction officer at a William Campbell Drive home.
