Woman robbed of R200 000 in jewellery in uMhlanga toilet

The armed suspect pretended to be waiting for a toilet stall when she accosted the victim.

AN uMhlanga woman was robbed of R200 000 worth of jewellery at knife-point on Palm Boulevard on Friday evening just after 6pm.

The victim claimed she was accosted in the restroom.

The suspect, another woman, pretended to wait to use a stall when the victim was reportedly attacked.

“The victim was walking out of the bathroom when the suspect pulled out a knife and pushed her against the wall of the toilet. She snatched her necklace and demanded her valuables, before making off with the goods. The suspect then fled on foot. At the moment we are reviewing CCTV footage to look for the suspect,” Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS said.

Deokaran added the victim was extremely traumatised by the incident.
