Suspect uses spade to break-in to Park Hill home

The break-in comes on the heels of an upsurge of crime in the area.

A SUSPECT involved in a break-in of a home on Orange Grove used a spade to damage the iron gate. The suspect, who was wearing blue overall pants, also dropped part of the stolen loot from the Park Hill home in his attempt to escape.

According to Marshall Security’s Kyle van Reenen, the incident occurred just after 12.30pm on Wednesday.

“A resident who called police and an armed patrol officer spotted the suspect fleeing into the bushy area behind the home. It appears the burglar bars of the security gate were forced opened with a spade. Our officer managed to retrieve a laptop, hair-iron, blow-dryer and clothes packed in a bag. The recovered items were handed over to Greenwood Park SAPS,” he said.

Some of the stolen loot.

The break-in comes on the heels of an upsurge of crime in the La Lucia area. In the last three weeks, there have been seven armed robberies and more than 10 house break-ins.

In the latest incident on Tuesday afteroon, an armed gang assaulted and robbed a La Lucia family. One of the armed suspects, holding an assault rifle, stood guard outside the property on Homeford Drive while his accomplices looted the home.
