Furry fundraiser sets tails wagging

The charity-focused event, Game of Paws, event offered something for everyone

THE organisation, Feeding the Furballs, set tails a-wagging at their annual charity fundraiser at DHS Old Boys this weekend.
The 2km fun walk was a hit with dogs, their owners and non-dog owners alike. The event garnered over 100 online registrations and many more on the day.

Organiser and animal activist, Farrah Khan Maharajh from Feeding the Furballs, selflessly dedicated her birthday to the event describing it as, “have a family event that kids can come to, so they can see the happier side of rescue and it’s not always sad, doom and gloom, there are happily ever-afters.”

The charity focused event offered a little something for everyone, 23 different vendors offering various snacks and toys and for fur-kids and children. While dogs of varying ages sniffed and sized one another up, kids could bounce away at a sizable jumping castle. Prizes were the order of the day, each fun walk entrant received a generous gift pack filled to the brim with various goodies. What’s more, hidden in selected gift packs were golden tickets, which promised a lucky winner a mammoth prize for their doggy.

Event-goer Christian Georgeson, with his furry friend Tyson, praised the event for promoting a healthy lifestyle along with the vast array of health products available on the day for dogs. His girlfriend Stacey Featonby-Smith added: “I think it’s really awesome as there isn’t much out there for dogs.”

Local heroes, Marshall Security and Crisis Medical (PTY) Ltd, offered their services for free as they kept a watchful eye over the event. Marshall Security provided staff and vehicles to serve as front and rear cars during dog walks.
The day drew to a close with an impressive display of discipline as participating dogs competed in agility trails.

Khan Maharajh attributed the success of the event to the local community, “I am thankful to the Durban North Community, we would like to thank the community we do the work in and where we live and I am very thankful to all those who came out to support us.”
