eMdloti resident arrested after damaging guard hut

Haden Searles, chairman of the Durban North/Umhlanga CPF condemned the behaviour calling it 'bizarre'.

AN eMdloti man was arrested after allegedly dragging a wooden guard hut down Bellamont Road. According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, the incident comes a month after a similar incident where a local resident towed the guard hut down the road.

Deokaran said a case of malicious of damage had been opened.

Haden Searles, chairman of the Durban North/Umhlanga CPF condemned the behaviour calling it ‘bizarre’.

The video above shows the incident from last month:

“It is madness. If the resident has an issue with the guard hut then he should contact the municipality. This is bizarre behaviour as this offense was done in broad daylight in front of witnesses and caught on camera,” he said.

According to Searles, the hut was set-up after a series of armed home invasions as a monitoring point  to report suspicious vehicles which were being used in the robberies.
