Armed gang storms La Lucia home

The suspects made off with several items including several designer bags, a luxury watch, iPads and the contents of a safe

FIVE men, all armed, robbed a La Lucia couple on Homeford Drive just after lunchtime on Tuesday. The gang also assaulted the couple in the robbery. According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, one of the suspects stood guard outside the property with an assault rifle while his accomplices, armed with handguns, ransacked the home.

“The men assaulted the couple using the pistols. The men ransacked the home and fled in a white Kia, an unknown make. The Durban North and Umhlanga Crisis Team were also on hand to assist the traumatised couple. The suspects made off with several items including several designer bags, a luxury watch, iPads and the contents of a safe,” he said.

A case of house robbery has been opened by Durban North SAPS.

The incident follows an assault and robbery of a couple in their 70s on Saturday night on Gainsford Place. This is the seventh incident in La Lucia in the last three weeks.

The home invasion also follows a shootout with an armed reaction officer and a gang of four suspects at a William Campbell Drive home.
