Get your ‘ink’spiration for cancer

The event will raise funds for CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation SA.

A DURBAN North business will be hosting a fundraising initiative for CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation SA on Saturday, 28 October. The event is in honour of the owner of Inkspiration Tattoo and Piercing Studio, Quintin Skea, whose parents were recently diagnosed with cancer.

“My mom was recently diagnosed with colon cancer, which has spread to her liver, and just two weeks ago my dad diagnosed with level 5 kidney failure. It was while walking into the oncology centre it struck me how many little children were suffering with the dreadful disease. That’s what inspired me to start this initiative. I was blown away by the amazing work that CHOC does, not only for the children but for the families of those who were diagnosed.

“This fundraiser is a tribute to those who have lost the battle to cancer and those that are still fighting it. We have designed a cancer ribbon designed (60mm x 35mm) and people can ink in the special names of their loved ones in it. We’ve started the initiative and will be running it until December but we urge the community to come out and support the day on Saturday, 28 October,” he said.

Skea added several other local businesses will be donating prizes for the raffle to raise extra funds. Tickets are available via Quicket. There will also be entertainment on the day as well as food stalls at the premises on 68 Adelaide Tambo Drive.

Half of the funds raised through the event will go towards the foundation.

Agie Govender, regional manager of CHOC said: “We are very excited about the awareness created by using tattoos as a medium to inspire people,” she said.
