Three arrested after attempted car theft in Durban North

The attempted car theft took place on Gleneagles Drive.

THREE men involved in the attempted theft of a vehicle on Gleneagles Drive have been arrested after a short foot chase. A fourth suspect is believed to have gotten away. According to the Durban North SAPS, the incident was initially reported as an attempted hijacking.

The trio were found in possession of various tools used to break into vehicles as well as boxes with computers in them.

According to Durban North/uMhlanga CPF member and Marshall Security’s Tyron Powell, the suspects were unarmed.

“An alert resident spotted the men trying to break into the vehicle. He contacted the Durban North SAPS who arrived swiftly to make the arrest. A fourth suspect is rumoured to have escaped,” he said.

This is the second successful arrest of suspects believed to be linked to a vehicle theft syndicate.  In July the station’s Field Unit as well as Detective Sipho Shezi arrested four men for car theft. Acting on information from recent investigations the police, who were in an unmarked vehicle, followed the men who were spotted near a hotel in the Riverside area.

They were also found in possession of car breaking implements.
