Culpable homicide case opened after M4 crash

There have been a number of fatalities on this stretch of road with many residents saying excessive speeding and drunk driving were the cause of the fatal crashes

DURBAN North SAPS are investigating a case of culpable homicide following a fatal crash on the M4 last Sunday. The incident occurred in the early morning on 8 October. Two people were killed in the horrific accident while a third was seriously injured.

According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North station, investigations were ongoing.

“It’s alleged one of the drivers travelling on the M4 northbound crossed over the centre median before crashing head-on into another vehicle. Two people were sadly killed while a third is in a critical condition. It’s unclear what factors led to the crash but we are investigating the case and I can confirm a culpable homicide case has been opened against one of the drivers,” he said.

The fatal crash last week was the first on the M4 since the beginning of September. There has been renewed calls for police presence on the M4 to curb.

There have been a number of fatalities on this stretch of road with many residents saying excessive speeding and drunk driving were the cause of the fatal crashes particularly between Blue Lagoon and the Swapo (Broadway) Road turnoff.
