City working to restore power to affected areas

The city's eThekwini Municipality’s Electricity Contact Centre is currently heavily back-logged and customers are urged to report their faults via the SMS line

LARGE parts of eThekwini Municipality’s electricity network were severely affected by yesterday’s heavy rain causing widespread tripping on the network.  A number of affected areas were remotely restored on alternate feeds.

Glenashley and uMhlanga were among the affected areas, while Mondi, Sapref, Waterfall and Gyles substations were among those affected on the high voltage network.

Portions of the supply to Metrorail and Transnet are still off and Municipal staff are on site, working around the clock, to restore power through alternative networks.

There have been over 500 faults reported since this morning, many of which affects large areas. This number keeps increasing as the day progresses.

Areas currently affected are:
Lindelani, uMhlanga, Waterloo, Newlands East
Osindisweni, Mt Moreland, Okford
Prospecton, Athlone Park
Glenwood, Westville South
Kwanyuswa, Marianhill, Dassenhoek
Zwelibomvu, Mobeni ,Intake/Demat, Jacobs, Wentworth, Hillary

eThekwini Municipality’s Electricity Contact Centre is currently heavily back-logged and customers are urged to report their faults via the SMS line, 083 700 0819, email address custocare@elec.durban.gov.za or via the website www.durban.gov.za (go to online services), should they have difficulty reaching us via the toll free number 080 1313 111.
