Greenwood Park police nab 2 hijackers

The arrests follow an increase in patrols in the policing area.

TWO hijackers were arrested by Greenwood Park Police last week after they targeted a man in his 20s while sitting in his car on Chris Hani Road.

According to spokesperson for the Greenwood Park Police Station, Sergeant Vincent Mthembu the man was waiting for his girlfriend at the time of the attack.

“He was approached by three men who attempted to hijack him,” Sergeant Mthembu said.

He added that the victim managed to drive away after a short altercation with the men and drove straight to the police station to inform the police with all necessary information.

He said: “We immediately dispatched the closest units to the scene and the criminals were caught shortly after. We advise people to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings. It is best to park where you are visible to the community and not in secluded places.

Brian Daish, chairman of the Community Policing Forum (sector four Greenwood Park) praised the efforts by the police saying: “Thank you to SAPS for extra patrols and visibility in our area recently.We have seen you and appreciate your efforts.”
