Gale force winds aftermath rattles city’s contact centres

This week's storms and heavy rains have caused a few areas to experience repeated power failures.

THE aftermath of last month’s gale force winds is still wreaking havoc for the eThekwini Municipality. In a statement the city officials said the winds that resulted in numerous power outages has left them inundated with calls from residents.

They have urged their customers trying to contact the City’s call centres to be patient as the volumes of has increased drastically.

This has been exacerbated by inclement weather including storms and heavy rains which have caused a few areas to experience repeated power failures.

This in turn has resulted in extreme high call volumes; calls taking longer than expected as agents are tied up with callers and slower connections to the contact centre numbers.

eThekwini Municipality’s Head of Communications, Tozi Mthethwa said the call volumes and durations fluctuate in a pattern that is unpredictable and unanticipated.

“The public is urged to note that we have begun putting comprehensive plans in place to provide a better and more efficient service in times like these. Their cooperation is appreciated and we apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused,” Mthethwa said.
