Break-ins rock La Lucia homes

In one of the incidents the break-in suspect was confronted by the home owner.

DURBAN North SAPS have confirmed they are concerned about the spike in robberies and break-ins in the area. This after, two break-ins were reported at two La Lucia homes within hours of each other on Tuesday night. In the past 12 days, there has been four armed home invasions and five breaks-ins across the North Durban area.

In one of the incidents on Tuesday night, the thieves cut through the electric fence to gain access to the property.

“The suspects cut the front left side electric fence and then proceeded to the rear of premises and broke a window to enter the home. They made off with a TV, handbag and other items. In the second incident, another break-in, a suspect was confronted by the home owner on Ellingham Drive in La Lucia.

“He heard sounds in the lounge and when he went to investigate he noticed a suspect trying to remove a TV. When he shouted, the suspect dropped the TV before fleeing the scene. He did however make off with a laptop,” Kyle van Reenen of Marshall Security said.

Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS said the station had started joint initiatives with the CPF and security companies to increase patrols at night.

No arrests have been made.
