Woman recounts horror ordeal at Sibaya Lodge

The local woman said one of the suspects nonchalantly exited her hotel room even though they screamed for help.

A LOCAL woman has recounted her terrifying ordeal at Sibaya Lodge after she and her family were robbed of their valuables while asleep. Nazley Vardan, who posted her story on Facebook, said their relaxing weekend away turned into a total disaster. The incident occurred almost two weeks ago at about 3am.  Vardan said she was with her mother, her aunt and five-year-old son.

“My mom heard a beeping sound coming from the TV that’s when she was confronted by a very tall man in the bedroom. He had a huge, shoulder length wig on as a disguise. In a panic, she starting shouting my name, at this stage the man had already unplugged all the cables and cords for the TV, but was struggling to take it out because it was mounted. He switched off the lights so we were unable to see much but the bathroom light was on and I was sitting upright on the bed so I was able to see most of him as he was moving around.

“We were screaming and shouting for help but because of the sound proof walls nobody could hear us. My son’s cry for help will haunt me forever. He left through the patio and entered through there as well. There were two men, one inside our room with us and one at the door. Despite our screaming, he was not alarmed at all, he didn’t get scared, he also knew how to open a locked patio door,” she explained.

Vardan said she and her family members ran into the corridor of the lodge screaming for help.

“When we reviewed camera footage, it showed the two men getting away through the car park and main entrance. However, once we returned to our room  we saw all our belongings besides clothing were taken. Cell phones, tablets, ID document, bank cards, handbags and cash were taken. All this was done while we were asleep. The thought of them in the room with us watching us sleep the whole time is absolutely terrifying,” Vardan said.

Durban North SAPS spokesperson, Capt Raymond Deokaran confirmed a case of burglary had been opened. Investigations are ongoing and no arrests have been made.

Northglen News is awaiting comment from Sibaya Casino.
