Taxi driver, accomplices linked to several cases in Durban

The men had robbed a woman the night of their arrest.

DURBAN North SAPS have confirmed the men arrested on Friday night in connection with six armed robberies in the North Durban area have been linked to five other cases in the Greenwood Park and Glenwood areas.

Just hours before their arrest, the men had robbed an unsuspecting female passenger on Kenneth Kaunda (Northway) Road.  According to Capt Raymond Deokaran the suspects were using a white Quantum mini-bus. The driver’s accomplices pretended to be passengers and then robbed people at knife and gunpoint.

“In the Friday night incident, the woman had gotten into the taxi and noticed two other passengers. As soon as the taxi began moving the men pulled out knives and held her up. They robbed her of her cell phone and handbag before throwing her out of the taxi near Mackeurtan Avenue. The men have also been linked to various crimes in the greater Durban area,” he said.

On the night of the arrests, the men were found in possession of the stolen items from the theft.

The vehicle’s details was uploaded to the Marshall Security Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera systems in the area.

The vehicle was picked up on the ANPR systems and armed reaction vehicles, together with Marshall’s special operations team and members of the SAPS arrested the suspects on Blackburn Road.
