Pint sized golfer wins third junior title

The win now means she qualifies to go to an international tournament of her choosing.

THERE’S no stopping Somerset Park’s Lia Naidoo, who recently won the SA Kids Golf Junior Africa Challenge in the girls U9 presented by the Mark McNulty Junior Foundation. Incredibly, this was the pint-sized golfing star’s third title in a row at the tournament. Northglen News recently caught up with the Reddam House Umhlanga learner to find out about her successes.

“It was really humbling winning the tournament. It’s a good feeling because my aim was to win the trophy. I wasn’t as nervous at this tournament because I’ve played here before,” she explained.

The win now means she qualifies to go to an international tournament of her choosing.

“I can either compete in America, Malaysia or Scotland. My parents have told me to pick one. It is great for a golfer trying out new courses and new challenges. I think that is what excites me about the sport. I love being outdoors and it’s really calming for me to play for a long time,” she said.

Lia also made special mention of her mom and dad who were instrumental in getting her to where she is today.

“If they were not by my side I wouldn’t be able to have performed so well. They always take me to the golf course whenever I want and always motivate me to believe in myself which is great.”
