DURBAN North SAPS arrested two men after a high speed chase on the M4 on Thursday afternoon. According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the station, the suspects were spotted in a Toyota Yaris. The Crime Prevention Unit had reported the car stolen earlier in the year.
“When our officers attempted to stop the vehicle the men sped off. We gave chase and eventually stopped the vehicle just before the Virginia on-ramp. The men were found in possession of a remote jamming device. They were charged with possession of a suspected stolen item. They will be charged on Friday and we will be investigating to see if they are linked to other remote jamming cases,” he said.
Deokaran urged residents to still be vigilant despite the arrest.
“Residents still need to be aware of their belongings. Items such as laptops, cameras, and phones are what the suspects most often look for. I urge residents to double-check they have locked their cars and not to leave valuables in their cars,” he said.
