Armed men rob Somerset Park home

This is the third armed robbery in the North Durban area in recent weeks.

A GANG of four men stormed a Somerset Park home on Wednesday evening. According to Marshall Security’s Kyle van Reenen, the men broke down the front door before accosting one of the homeowners who was roughed up in the robbery on Taunton Way.

“The children and their father managed to hide in one of the rooms and press the alarm. The suspects, who were armed with firearms assaulted the wife. They took TVs, several cell phones, laptops and jewellery. The suspects then fled the scene. No one was seriously injured in the robbery,” he said.

The armed robbery comes days after four men used a sledgehammer to break down a door of a Kenneth Kaunda (Northway) home. The suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of cash, jewellery and other items from the safe.

Craig Ardendoff of Sun Cell Watch urged residents in the area to be vigilant.

“This time of the month we usually see a spike in crime. I urge residents to be vigilant and report anything crime related to the police, Sun Cell Watch or your local neighbourhood watches,” he said.
