A Handful of Keys, is coming to Durban this November

South Africa’s iconic piano show, A Handful of Keys, is on the lookout for a new pianist to feature in the line-up.

Director of A Handful of Keys, Ian von Memerty is holding auditions for a guest star pianist to perform alongside the show’s pianists, Roelof Colyn and James Smith when the production comes to Durban in November.

Auditions will take place on Monday, 30 October at the Rhumbelow Theatre, in Umbilo. As the show tours, the management is sourcing pianists in each region to be guests star joining Colyn and newcomer Smith in the run at Izulu Threatre in Sibaya Casino.

The director of the show, von Memerty will be in Durban to host the audition process starting at 10:30am.

“You will need to perform one razzle dazzle piano piece, in any style. And then a contrasting number – a song, a parody or something completely different. So pianists need to prepare two totally different pieces to blow us away,” von Memerty said.

The successful pianist would need to be available to perform in A Handful of Keys for the Durban run from 8 to 19 November.

Audiences can still expect highlights such as ‘The Complete History of The Broadway Musical in 12 Minutes’, Liberace, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Funeral for A Friend and the SA Medley.

Anyone who is keen to showcase their piano-playing prowess can email sophie@pubmat.co.za for further details, and to book their space before Friday 20 October.

The Rhumbelow Theatre can be found at 42 Cunningham Rd, Umbilo, Durban.
