The suspect struck just before midnight on Sunday night.

DURBAN North SAPS has issued a warning to businesses following a spike in business break-ins in the area. This after thieves broke into Virgin Active La Lucia on Sunday, just before midnight. While the thieves didn’t steal much, police are concerned a syndicate is targeting the area.

David Filen, club general manager at the gym confirmed the incident had taken place.

“A PC was stolen as well as an overhead projector. The incident occurred on Sunday night at around 11:45pm.”

Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North station,  said a syndicate was operating in the area and were after one item in particular.

“Regarding business burglary cases, most of the break-ins committed have involved the theft of computers. Some companies are being robbed more than once. There is a massive market for computers. The syndicate moves from area to area usually breaking into three companies close together at a time,” he said.

He further advised business owners and staff to be vigilant and take other necessary precautions such as installing CCTV cameras, and where possible hiring security guards.
