Two arrested for Durban North remote jamming

One of the suspects arrested was out on bail from previous criminal offences.

TWO men were arrested on Hunter Street on Thursday afternoon after being involved in a theft out of motor vehicle. The theft occurred on Broadway (Swapo Road). According to Marshall Security’s Kyle van Reenen, the incident occurred at about 2.50pm.

“Eyewitnesses reported that two men remote jammed an Isuzu bakkie while the owner of the vehicle was busy in a nearby store. The suspects opened the vehicle and stole various items including what appeared to be a laptop computer bag. The thieves then fled in an awaiting getaway vehicle, a silver Volkswagen Polo, in the direction of the M4 highway.

“A description of the vehicle and its registration was circulated to all Marshall Security and SAPS vehicles in the area. A sighting was made matching the vehicle in the area of Sylvester Ntuli Road and a high speed chase ensued with the suspects attempting to evade arrest.  A joint effort between Marshall Security and the South African Police Services, saw the vehicle brought to a stop on Hunter Street in the Durban CBD,” he said.

Van Reenen added the two occupants were found in possession of a wallet, the laptop bag containing various work documents and two boxes confirmed to be belonging to the complainant.

“After further investigation it was revealed that one of the suspects is currently out on bail from previous offences.”
