Arrest imminent following towing of eMdloti security hut

The eMdloti resident is known to the community and there's CCTV footage of him towing the security hut down the road.

CHAIRMAN of the uMhlanga/Durban North SAPS, Haden Searles has confirmed that the arrest of an eMdloti resident is imminent after he towed a security guard hut, ripping it off its base and leaving the damaged structure on its side. Searles said the behaviour displayed in the incident, which occurred on Saturday night, was ‘ridiculous’.

“The eMdloti resident is known to the community and there’s CCTV footage of him towing the security hut down the road. The hut was set up on Bellamont Road by members of the eMdloti Community Policing Forum for security purposes. From the initial reports I’ve received, the hut was used as a checkpoint and the resident had an altercation with the security guard posted at the hut. He also threatened the security guard in the incident.

“He then drove his 4×4 onto the pavement before tying the hut to the hitch of his vehicle and drove off dragging the hut off its base. This is completely ridiculous behaviour. The residents of the CPF work extremely hard to keep the area safe and now they have to dig into their own pockets to fix the damage caused by recklessness. An arrest of the local resident involved is imminent,” he said.

Durban North SAPS have confirmed a case of malicious damage to property has been opened.
