Greenwood Park SAPS nab bicycle thieves

There has been a spate of bicycle thefts in the area in the past seven months with police speculating a criminal syndicate was involved.

GREENWOOD Park SAPS arrested two men who were in possession of stolen bicycles in the early hours of Wednesday morning. According to Kyle van Reenen, from Marshall Security, the officers spotted two men on Queen Nandi Drive at about 1am.

“One of the men confessed to being a gardener at a premises in the Effingham area where he said he and his accomplice had stolen the bicycles,” he said.

There has been a spate of bicycle thefts in the area in the past seven months with police speculating a criminal syndicate was involved.

The arrests comes on the back of uMgeni Park resident losing seven bicycles worth more than R150 000. The Chicks Drive resident, Sean Lucien, put out a reward for R20 000  for the return of the bicycles.

The thieves also stole an iPhone and several tools from Lucien’s garage in the break-in.
