New clinic for uMhlanga community

The new clinic will include, three consulting rooms, each with a small hand basin and air-conditioning, a kitchenette for the clinic's staff and fully flushing and plumbed toilet facilities.

LAST year the mobile clinic at the Village Green in uMhlanga Rocks underwent a massive transformation. Generous donations enabled the Umhlanga Urban Improvement Precinct (UIP) to install 32 square metre awnings for shade and shelter for the patients as well as two aircons. What’s more, workers laid 50 square metres of paving and planted 320 square meters of lawn and greenery to soften the aesthetics of the clinic.

Now, almost a year later, there are yet more changes as a new and improved clinic is under construction.

Cara Reilly of the organisation said the clinic was a busy facility that caters to a cross-section of the community.

“It is thanks to the generosity of M Projects (who built the current park home clinic), there will soon be a bigger, better and more hygienic clinic on the Village Greens. It all came about after we asked them if they could install a toilet in the existing structure, an urgent requirement from the department of health. Instead of the toilet addition, they offered to replace the entire clinic with a brand new facility, and after engaging with the clinic sisters on what they needed.

“The new clinic will include, three consulting rooms, each with a small hand basin and air-conditioning, a kitchenette for the clinic’s staff and fully flushing and plumbed toilet facilities. The existing outside covering and benches will remain. We are so greatful for this incredible gesture and for supporting the local uMhlanga community. It is the little things that make a huge difference in the lives of others,” she said.

Reilly added the UIP would inform the public when construction would begin.
