Pam wins successive senior women’s title

The Northlands Bowling Club member said she was thrilled with the result but didn't expect to win.

IT has been six years since the Ruth Cochrane women’s senior masters invitation singles trophy has been won back-to-back. However that all changed recently when uMhlanga’s Pam Wolstenholme won the Port Natal senior masters singles trophy at the Westville Bowling Club recently.

The Northlands Bowling Club member said she was thrilled with the result but didn’t expect to win.

“There was an element of competitiveness going into the competition. Having said that, I don’t think I’d win it again. Fortunately I did which was absolutely fabulous. I think the praise must also go to the club. We have a strong competitive women’s field and that contributed to my game,” she explained.

Despite winning the district trophy, Wolstenholme may not feature in the SA senior masters nationals, which is by invitation only.

“I would love to compete in the SA nationals. It would be a great challenge, especially because it features so many Springbok bowls players.”

Wolstenholme, who has been playing the sport of bowls for 20 years recently took up coaching. She added her coaching experience has helped develop her game.

“I’ve been a coach for two years now and it’s definitely helped the rhythm of my bowls game. It helps me focus on doing everything right because I’m having to correct myself all the time,” she said.
