THE total number of suspects shot dead in an attempted cash-in-transit robbery in Springfield Park is yet to be confirmed. The incident occurred after 10am today (28 August). According to Andreas Mathios of Blue Security, two others have been arrested while one member of the armed gang is in a critical condition.
“The armed gang attempted a cash-in-transit robbery and were involved in a shootout with guards. One of the suspects was fatally wounded and died shortly after, while another was critically injured. SAPS have arrested two others who were still in the getaway vehicle. No money was taken during the robbery,” he said.

A second vehicle with armed suspects fled towards Parlock where a second shootout occurred.
“Five suspects were allegedly killed in the vehicle in Parlock at a second crime scene. The active crime scene has been cordoned off. We are awaiting confirmation on the total number of suspects killed,” he said.
According to Garrith Jamieson, of Rescue Care, four civilians were injured in the Parlock area. Two of the civilians were shot in the crossfire.
The incident follows a shootout on the N2 last month with an alleged cash-in-transit gang where five suspects were killed. Police also found a SAPS radio in the suspects’ vehicle
In June this year, a cash-in-transit van was robbed of an undisclosed amount of money outside an uMgeni Road eatery.
