Suspect crashes stolen vehicle in Somerset Park

The suspect was arrested after a high speed chase along Umhlanga Rocks Drive.

A MAN has been arrested after a high speed chase on Umhlanga Rocks Drive ended in a crash. The suspect who was trying to evade Marshall Security officers lost control of the white Ford Ranger before crashing through the fence of a building on Kenynsham Drive, Somerset Park.

According to Kyle van Reenen, company spokesman, the owner of the vehicle spotted his vehicle on Herrwood Drive. The vehicle was stolen on Thursday in the Musgrave area.

“The registration had been changed to false plates however the owner recognized it to be the same vehicle. The vehicle was followed on Umhlanga Rocks Drive into Somerset Park Drive. Marshall Security armed reaction and Special Operations Team members descended on the area and the vehicle was spotted turning onto Umhlanga Rocks Drive, headed north and a high speed chase ensued.

“The driver lost control of the vehicle attempting to turn into Keynsham Drive and collided with a wall. The driver jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot into a nearby housing complex. An extensive search of the complex was conducted resulting in the suspect being located and arrested,” he said.
