R10 000 reward offered after uMgeni Park bicycle theft

The avid cyclist said three of the bikes that were stolen were used for underprivileged cyclists.

AN uMgeni Park resident is offering a R10 000 reward for the return of seven bikes which were stolen from his home early on Thursday morning. Sean Lucien, said the thieves had also stolen his iPhone and several tools from his garage in the break-in. Lucien, who is part of the Shut Up & Ride cycling club said three of the bikes were used for underprivileged cyclists.

“It’s extremely frustrating. I help with the development programme which is for underprivileged children and it’s such a shame for them. The thieves also made off with two track bicycles and two road bicycles. They had obviously scoped my home out because they had removed all the security lights on my property. They grabbed my iPhone before breaking into my garage.

“They stole several tools and then broke into my bike shed. I’m offering a R10 000 reward and I’m hoping it will lead to the recovery of my bicycles,” the avid cyclist said.

There has been a spate of bicycle thefts in the area in the past seven months with police speculating a criminal syndicate was involved.

In June, a bicycle thief was caught on camera at a home in Park Hill.

In January, Durban North SAPS arrested a man who stole a bicycle worth R40 000.
