MORE than a year ago, the Rampookar family’s life was turned upside down when their 24-year-old daughter, Adika, was tragically killed after falling to her death during a hiking expedition in Swaziland. Her father, Ashwin, said the family were still trying to come to terms with her death.
Last year, the family donated the Adika Rampookar Achiever Trophy for chess to her former school Northlands Girls’ High School. Adika, who loved chess represented the school, was the captain of the chess team, and also represented the province.
The family have now begun the Adika Rampookar Foundation to help various charitable causes.
“Adika was an inspiration to all, she loved giving back and was involved in various community initiatives. She would often help at the Verulam Day and Frail Care Centre. She was selfless and kind-hearted. That was why we decided to form this foundation. We wanted to honour her memory by continuing the good work she had done. We recently donated an ambulance to the Verulam centre which was just amazing. We’ve also been in contact with a school called the Ikhayalethu Home of Love and Care, Child and Youth Centre where we will be supporting them on an ongoing basis,” he said.
Ashwin said his daughter excelled in everything she did and gave with all her heart.
He added the family is in the process of donating trophies to her primary school, Northlands Primary School in the near future.
