DEPUTY minister of higher education and training, Mduduzi Manana has resigned. The move was confirmed by President Jacob Zuma on Saturday in a press statement.
“The President has thanked Mr Manana for his contribution to the work of government during his term of office,” the presidency said in a statement.
Manana recently admitted to the assault of two women at the Cubana nightclub in Johannesburg recently. He took to his Twitter account shortly after the announcement to release a statement.

According to reports, although Manana has resigned from his government post, he is still an MP.
On Friday, social media users reacted with anger to wellness activist, Criselda Dudumashe, who defended Manana in a Facebook post. Her comments comes days after ANC Women’s League President (ANCWL), Bathabile Dlamini, came under fire for not supporting calls that Manana be shown the door after he admitted to the assault outside a Fourways nightclub.
Twitter users, many expressing delight at Manana’s resignation, said they hoped that justice would be served.
