BEING a gay parent or being part of a same-sex couple raising kids isn’t always easy, especially given the lack of support groups to help out. That’s why Durban North resident and parent, Calvin Moncur, started the Gay Parents Durban Facebook page last year to provide a platform for gay parents in Durban. Now, the 31-year-is hosting the group’s first picnic at Botanical Gardens this weekend.
“All gay and lesbian parents, singles, families or gay friendly folks are welcome to attend our social picnic. It’s a platform to meet each other and make friends. Singles are also welcome and everyone is encouraged to bring family and friends, the more the merrier. The picnic takes place on Sunday, 13 August at Botanical Gardens from 1pm (till you ready to leave),” he said.
