Vehicle theft affecting babies’ home operations

Durban North NPO say the theft of their vehicle has been a massive blow to the organisation.

THE theft of the Domino Foundation’s Babies’ Home vehicle more than two weeks ago is affecting the daily operations and running of the home. The home’s Toyota Avanza was stolen outside Mitchell Park while staff and children were on an outing. Domino Foundations Babies’ Home, formerly known as Fairhaven Baby Home, looks after and cares for abandoned babies and toddlers.

Northglen News recently met with the chief operating officer foundation, Shaun Tait and Sandy Hamblin, project leader at the home.

“It has been a massive blow for us as we relied on the car. We have had to try and organise lifts for our older children, who go to pre-school everyday, being picked-up and dropped off. There’s also the issue of getting to the hospital for our medicines and the daily running of the home. It has also affected us getting children to court and meeting potential parents, it definitely has impacted on us,” Hamblin said.

Tait, said there has been no sign of the branded vehicle despite being spotted on the day of the theft. He added the home would welcome any help from residents in the area.

“It was such a sad and sour ending to day out for the staff and children. Sadly, since being spotted in the Briardene area, there’s been no luck in tracing the car. We would welcome any help from the north Durban community. Our biggest concern is for emergency cases, we are a 24 hour crisis care centre, and not having a vehicle is extremely concerning.
