Murder case adjourned until September

Philendren Naidoo (35) was allegedly stabbed with a steak knife after an altercation at a braai in June.

FAMILY and friends of Philendren (Phil) Naidoo, who was killed in June, packed the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday morning to show their support for the victim. Many of them wore t-shirts showing the victims face. The 35-year-old passed away two months ago after a sustaining a single stab wound below his sternum after an altercation at a braai not far from his home.

Neresan Govender, accused of the murder was released on R2 000 bail in June.

Philendren’s sister-in-law, Yavini Naidoo, said the family were frustrated by this morning’s proceedings but were confident of a positive conviction.

“This morning’s court appearance was adjourned until September because two statements were outstanding. As a family we are frustrated, but we still have hope in the justice system. It is testament to his character how many family members and friends were in court this morning. We are 100 per cent sure that justice will be served,” she said.

A Facebook page called Justice for Philendren was also started in the wake of his death by friends and family.
