Domestic worker robbed in Glenashley

The suspects were seen fleeing the scene in a maroon VW Polo.

A DOMESTIC worker was robbed of her belongings by two men while on the way to work on Friday morning. The robbery took place at 9am on Lindsay Drive. According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, the men pretended to ask for directions.

“The suspects, were in a maroon VW Polo and slowed down to pretend to ask for directions. One of the men then jumped out the vehicle and grabbed the domestic worker’s handbag which contained her cell phone, cash and other items. There have been numerous incidents over recent months in which domestic workers have been caught in the cross-hairs of armed robberies as well as muggings such as this incident,” he said.

Deokaran urged domestic workers, where possible to try and walk in groups to avoid falling victim to muggings.
