Danville Girls’ shine as the school celebrates half a century of excellence

For five decades Danville has grown a beautiful legacy of excellence which deserves to be celebrated in style.

SINCE opening its doors in 1967 to just 71 girls starting their first year of high school, Danville Park Girls’ High School has just kept growing and this year celebrates 50 years of being a respected institution of learning in the Durban North Community.

2017 Head Girl, Cailin and Deputy Head Girl, Merilee raised the flag to the sound of cheers and happy applause of the other learners and teachers.

This year has seen a special flag being raised to honour the half-century of learning that generations of young women have received in the school which today is recognized as one of the top academic, sporting, and cultural facilities for girls countrywide.

The year- long celebrations started with the first term’s special musical “Diamonds are Forever” which showcased 50 years of Danville “shining bright like a diamond.”

The girls wowed the audiences with the variety of musical numbers with one of the many highlights being the guest appearance of three professional performers who started their singing careers in musicals at Danville – Zola Myeza, Nomagugu Gumede and Amanda Kunene.

Danville’s 50 Year Celebration is not an event you want to miss. It takes place on 19 August 2017 and time is running out for those who want to book their place at what promises to be an amazing reunion. Booking deadline is 11 August 2017. For more information about this celebration for past pupils, email pro@danville.co.za or phone 031 5600350.

With the benefit of today’s technology, it is possible to share school memories easily and reach even those old-girls who might have spread far and wide around the world.  If you have old school photos you would like to share on social media, please do so and use the hashtag #50Danville2017 so your classmates or colleagues can find the pictures and tag themselves. Also, make sure you like and share the school’s Facebook page so others can join in the fun.
