Hijacker opens fire on delivery driver near Mt Edgecombe

The driver was on his way to Stanger to deliver parcels when a suspect stepped onto the road and opened fire at his vehicle.

A COURIER van driver was lucky to escape after a hijacker fired a shot at him while he was driving along the R102 near Mount Edgecombe on Tuesday morning.

Blue Security community and media liaison officer said the driver was on his way to Stanger to deliver parcels when a suspect stepped into the road and opened fire at his vehicle. The incident occurred at about 9.45am.

“The hijacker fired the shot from about 20 metres away and the bullet hit the windscreen, deflected off the dashboard and exited just above his head through the roof of his panel van. Fortunately, the driver was unharmed,” Mathios said.

Mathios said a crisis medical de-briefer and the SAPS K9 Flying Squad  had responded to the scene.
