THE South African Guide Dogs Association for the Blind will be hosting an awareness and fundraising campaign this Mandela Day weekend at La Lucia Mall. Residents will also have the chance to meet three month old, golden retriever, Selleck, Durban’s first guide dog puppy.

Ane Roux, marketing manager for the association explained the significance behind the fundraiser.

“We train dogs for people who are visually impaired, service dogs for people who are physically disabled and Autism support dogs for Autistic children. All of our training has been done in Johannesburg until now. Selleck is Durban’s first guide dog puppy to be trained in the province. He and his trainer, Jan De Waal have been really bonded the last few weeks.

“For us this weekend is all about interacting with the public and raising awareness on what we do as an organisation. Selleck is the cutest puppy and already we’ve had such amazing feedback from the public. We decided to host our fundraiser at La Lucia Mall because it’s a community mall and we hope to see as many people come say hello over the four days that we will be there,” she said.
