Don your pink tutu for cancer awareness

Are you ready for the Pink Phoenix Cancer Foundation's first ever Tutus and Tekkies fundraiser?

AT the end of the month the uMhlanga promenade will be transformed into a ocean of pink in aid of cancer awareness.

The public has been invited to take part in the Pink Phoenix Cancer Foundation’s first annual Tutus and Tekkies 5km Fun Run.

Participants are urged to don their beautiful pink tutus and bright tekkies for the event.

“We wanted to create something that would be totally different and visually amazing on the promenade. The colour pink also represents our organisation,” said Sharon van Straaten of the Pink Phoenix Cancer Foundation.

“Everyone is invited to take part in the event, as we aim to raise as much awareness on cancer as possible,” she added.

Michelle Luyt, Tanya Tostee, Wendy Williamson, Cynthia Mokoena, Pauline Statham and Sharon van Straaten encourage the community to get pink for the worthy cause.

The event will also serve as a community project for the Umhlanga Rocks Lifesaving Club. The club will be selling food and drinks at the event.

Local companies are also urged to take part in the corporate challenge. The company that raises the most money will win the coveted trophy.

The run will kick off at the Umhlanga Rocks Lifesaving Club at 8am on Sunday, 30 July. Entries cost R100 for adults and R50 for children. Registration starts at 7am.
