Armed men rob Glenashley B&B, assault staff, guest

The suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of money, cell phones, as well as property of some of the guests.

A GANG of five armed suspects robbed a Glenashley bed and breakfast establishment on Tuesday night at around 7pm. The suspects also assaulted the B&B owner and his wife.  They gained access to the establishment pretending to look for accommodation. The suspects allegedly used a white VW Polo with GP number plates.

According to provincial spokesman, Lt Col Thulani Zwane, the suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of money, cellphones, as well as property of some of the guests.

“The suspects pretended to be looking for more information regarding accommodation, they then held up the owner’s wife and held a gun to her mouth. Her husband was struck on the back of the head and assaulted by the suspects during the robbery. They also assaulted two maids and a guest,” Zwane said.

The incident followed the robbing of a Glenashley family who were held up by a six man gang at around 6pm on the same night.
