THE Durban & Coast SPCA has warned of an individual administrating vaccinations to pets without proper authorisation or training. The man has been reportedly seen in the Phoenix area but Lindsey Concer, spokesperson for the organisation urged residents in other areas to be aware of the man.
“The SPCA would like to warn pet owners against letting anyone onto your property to vaccinate or otherwise treat your animals. Should your pet need any medical care you should use a licensed vet or your local SPCA clinic. Without the proper licensing an individual could be administering any number of substances to your pet, with no consequences.
“In the case in question a women’s dog was given ‘vaccinations’ by this individual, after which, the dog fell asleep for several hours as if sedated. This is not a normal response to a simple vaccination. The empty syringes were given to our SPCA by the owner, however the residue left is too little to test,” Concer said.
She urged residents to contact the local SPCA if they saw the man.
