Durban North resident’s search for feathered friend continues

"I know that there is a very small chance that she escaped, so even if someone only finds her pink nappy it would at least bring me some closure."

IT has been nearly a week since Claire Matthis watched in horror as a hawk swooped down at her beloved pet pigeon, ‘Thursday’.

Within an instant they were both gone without a trace.

The Durban North resident is hoping that her feathered friend escaped the hawk’s deadly talons, and that through the eyes of the community could locate ‘Thursday’ and bring her home safe and sound.

She recently turned to the Durban North Neighbours Facebook page where she appealed to the community for any information.

“As most of you know from last weekend my beloved pet pigeon was taken by a hawk in front of me on Saturday morning. I am pretty sure the hawk got her but there is always a small chance that she may have got away and flown too far from home and is now lost. I am devastated without her. She was such a big part of my life. Please keep your eyes and ears open anywhere in Durban for a diaper wearing pigeon,” she posted on the page.

“We hand reared her, after our cat caught her and brought her into our home. She has lived with us for the last two years,” Matthis told the Northglen News.

“I am absolutely devastated. She had such a big personality and followed me everywhere. She would even shower with me,” she added.

“I know that there is a very small chance that she escaped, so even if someone only finds her pink nappy it would at least bring me some closure,” she said.
